Updated October 2026
Lawsuits allege that GLP-1 drugs such as Ozempic and Wegovy can cause non-arteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy (NAION), a sudden loss of blood flow to the optic nerve that can cause permanent vision loss, usually in one eye.
In June 2025, the European Medicines Agency concluded that NAION is a very rare side effect of semaglutide, the active ingredient in Ozempic and Wegovy. U.S. labels do not include a NAION warning.
